No One Knows That Day: AI Doomsday Fears and the History of Failed Prophecies

In a September 2026 U.S. poll, 63% of adults worried that AI beyond human control could destroy humanity, and inside the AI industry warnings and rebuttals collide. This study traces how the date-setting doomsday movements of the Millerites in 1844, the Dami Mission in 1992, and Harold Camping in 2011 began and how they ended. It then brings to today's AI anxiety the word of Matthew 24:36, that no one knows the day or the hour, and the posture of the Thessalonian letters: do not be shaken, but stay awake and sober.
